1991 Oldsmobile Toronado - $7,900 - Grand Rapids, MI -

The Oldsmobile Toronado is a personal luxury car produced by the Oldsmobile division of General Motors from 1966 to 1992. Designed to compete with the Ford Thunderbird and GM's own Buick Riviera, the Toronado is historically significant as the first U.S.-produced front-wheel drive automobile since the demise of the Cord in 1937. The final generation Toronado made its debut in 1985. It was even smaller, lost its body-on-frame construction in favor of a unibody platform, and was the first Toronado since 1969 to feature hidden headlights. For the first time ever V8 engines were gone, with the fuel-injected version of the Buick 231 cu in (3.8 L) V6 now the only powerplant available. Inside, a new digital instrument panel and optional voice alert system were employed and the same luxury trappings were offered as standard equipment and options as before. Standard seating was a cloth 60/40 bench with center armrest. For the first time since 1970, Strato bucket seats were offered as an option, and they included a full-length center console with a horseshoe-like ''basket handle'' gear shift similar to that found in some 1960s and 1970s Buicks and Chevrolets. Upholstery choices included cloth or leather.

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1991 Oldsmobile Toronado for purchase. This Toronado is outfitted with the powerful 3.8L V6 engine making near 170 horsepower. This power is transferred through a silky smooth 3 speed automatic transmission and applied with an innovative front wheel drive system. This Toronado has all the features you could want, some of the best will follow; power windows, power steering, telescoping wheel steering, working digital clock and radio / stereo, original interior mats, original wheels, keyless fob, working headlights low/high, working air conditioner, working heater and much more. This vehicle has been cared and maintained very well by both previous owners. From the factory this vehicle also had a Ziebart coating applied. The Dark Garnet exterior paint looks very well and has cleaned up very nicely after receiving a fully finished professional detail. The interior has also held on very well for the age of the vehicle. The seats are all in great condition and appear to be free of any holes or rips, the dashboard is intact as it should and looks great. The carpet roof liner is sagging down slightly and could use a professional re-stapling – this is a very common issue with these Fourth Generation Toronados. In short, this 1991 Oldsmobile Toronado remains largely unmolested to this day, and is a gem among original car enthusiasts. Consider with confidence, please call or email us today for more information on this vehicle.

1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - $31,900 - Lock Haven, PA -

Please note...this vehicle is located in the Buffalo, New York area.

The Oldsmobile Toronado debuted in 1966 as the largest front wheel drive car ever and the first American fullsize front wheel drive car since the 1930s Cord. With a 119 inch wheelbase and weighing in at 4,366 pounds, the Toronado was no sports car. But with a standard 425ci V8 rated at 385hp and aggressive styling, the Toronado could perform on the street. The drive system featured a split transmission with the torque converter behind the V8 engine and the gearbox located remotely under its left cylinder bank. This arrangement allowed the heavy engine to sit over the front wheels, which resulted in a favorable weight distribution (54%/46% front/rear) for such a large FWD car. The styling was executed by GM design Chief William L. Mitchell and was exquisite. Design features included jutting front fenders, hidden headlamps, muscularly flared wheel arches, and a cropped tail trailing a smooth fastback roofline. All this combined to make the Toronado the winner of the Motor Trend “Car of the Year” Award.

Only 35,430 actual miles on this wonderful example. It has a professionally detailed engine compartment. The paint is very nice and it has black leather interior. Has professionally added air conditioning. It features power windows, power seat, AM radio power brakes, power steering and dual exhaust. The engine is the 425ci 385hp V8 with an automatic transmission. It runs and drives very well and is ready to go. 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado Deluxe

1977 Oldsmobile Toronado - $15,900 - Grand Rapids, MI -

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1977 Oldsmobile Toronado Brougham Coupe for purchase. The 2nd generation Toronado morphed from a sports car in to the luxury car fray. The Toronado started in 1966 as Oldsmobile's full-size personal luxury car and was the first front-wheel drive American produced automobile since the Cord in 1937. It shared the E-body platform with the Cadillac Eldorado and the Buick Riviera, but they had quite different styling. The change to more luxury was a huge success as sales increased dramatically.

This well documented, single family owned, Toronado comes with the original broadcast sheet and original window sticker, various receipts and owner's manual. The light blue metallic paint presents well. The car also features a white vinyl top and vinyl protective cover on driver seat. This blue beauty wears brand new tires with small whitewalls. The added options that were ordered for this car include 6-way power adjustable driver seat, power door locks, soft-ray tinted windows, power trunk lid release, auxiliary front and rear floormats, bright door-edge guard moldings, electric rear window defogger, tempmatic air conditioning, litter container, rem-control outside passenger mirror, passenger side visor and vanity mirror, automatic cruise control, tilt away steering column, stow away spare tire and wheel and inflator, AM/FM push button radio, and more. The Toronado also a tow ball mounted on the rear bumper. The car sold brand new for $9,567.55 and was delivered at Albright Motor sales in Three Rivers Michigan. The car spent a portion of its life in the dry climate of Arizona and then Colorado then back to Michigan. This is a very clean example

1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - $29,900 - , -

The Oldsmobile Toronado Is A Personal Luxury Car That Was Produced From Model Years 1966 To 1992. Designed To Compete With The Thunderbird And General Motors' Own Riviera, The Toronado Is Historically Significant As The First U.S.-Produced Front-Wheel Drive Automobile Since The Demise Of The Cord in 1937.
The original Toronado began as a design painting by Oldsmobile stylist David North in 1962. His design, dubbed the ''Flame Red Car,'' was for a compact sports/personal car never intended for production. A few weeks after the design was finished, however, Oldsmobile division was informed it would be permitted to build a personal car in the Riviera/Thunderbird class for the 1966 model year, and North's design was selected. For production economy, the still-unnamed car was to share the so-called E-body shell with the redesigned 1966 Buick Riviera, which was substantially bigger than North had envisioned. Despite the efforts of Oldsmobile and General Motors styling chief Bill Mitchell to put the car on the smaller A-body intermediate, they were overruled for cost reasons.
Oldsmobile had been working on front-wheel drive since 1958, a project shepherded by engineer John Beltz (who originated the 442 and would later become head of the division). Although initially envisioned for the smaller F-85 line, its cost and experimental nature pushed the program towards a larger, more expensive car. Engineer F. J. Hooven of the Ford Motor Company, had patented a similar FWD layout, and Ford was seriously considering the design for the 1961 Ford Thunderbird. However, the time to develop and engineer such a design in such short notice made this a doubtful proposition.
Oldsmobile spent seven years developing the Toronado. Prior to its introduction to the public, over 1.5 million brutal test miles had been performed to verify the strength and reliability of the Toronado's front-drive components. Obviously, Oldsmobile did not want anyone to experience problems with the new design. History has confirmed the Toronado design was indeed heavily over-built; the GMC motorhome of the 1970s, which used a basically unchanged Toronado-derived drivetrain, stands as a testament to that fact. Nevertheless, the re-introduction of front wheel drive earned the new Toronado Motor Trend ''Car of the Year'' honors in 1966.
Naming the Toronado was also an event in itself. Some other known names being considered during development are: Magnum (later used by Dodge), Scirocco (later used by Volkswagen) and Raven.
